Here are different pictures of Servel's that I have found over the internet. If you have one, take a picture and send it in and we'll put it in here, too!
My Servel -
Below,
are pictures of my Servel Model 856G, made in 1955. I bought it for
$25, cleaned it, de-rusted it, got it running, then did the cosmetic
work, like painting it, polishing the chrome, etc. If you can find one
in good condition, there's usually not a lot that it takes to get it
going again.
Work done (general overview):
1. Wirewheeling bottom of door and cabinet to remove rust. Cleaned, primed, and painted.
2. Cleaned, primed, and painted all portions of the
cooling unit with high-temp paint, including all fins, piping, the top
grille, and the stamped sheet metal back (I did it with Rustoleum's
Gray Hammertone - nice contrast!).
3. Thoroughly cleaned all internal cabinet parts.
4. Installed new Front Door and Freezer Compartment
Gaskets. (HINT: Follow the instructions in the Manual, or better yet,
email me for ideas on how to replace the Door Gasket - it's EASY to
hose it up!)
5. Thoroughly cleaned burner, flue, generator, etc.
6. Installed new Orifice Spud and Turbulator for Natural Gas.
7. Used all stainless-steel screws, bolts, etc., for reassembly.
8. Purchased a Water Manometer ($17) and calibrated
the burner pressure (a MUST!). Had to get an inline regulator, seeing
as how it is running on Natural (piped) gas.
9. Had it professionally sanded and painted with high-quality automotive paint.
This paint has a hardener in it that makes it more difficult to scuff, scratch, or mess up your baby. Word to the Wise:
If you use car body paint, like I did, for the final finish, TELL the
paint guy what type of paint you used on it yourself! The professional
car paint BLISTERED where it came in contact with the Rustoleum Spray
Enamel I used to cover some body repairs! Cost me a wad more to have it
resanded, andrepainted - DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE! Let the paint guys sand and paint it!
Works PERFECTLY with NO Carbon Monoxide warning from the detector!
Freezer temp = 6-degrees. Refrigerator compartment temp = 38-degrees.
Regulates itself well!
